How should I protect myself and take care of my health?
One of the biggest fears of parents when their little ones start in a sports practice, is the fear of blows or injuries. In skating, basic protective equipment requires knee pads, elbow pads, wristbands and helmet. With which the child can safely practice this sport.
It is important that each of the protective implements are well adjusted so that they fulfil their function and do not move or release at the time of a fall.
From what age can I start skating?
The appropriate age for the initiation of the training process is 4 years.
What is the ideal skate to start skating?
There are many types of skates suitable for different ages and modalities. Initially we advise you to try to rent or borrow some to try different types.
Each modality (Artistic, Hockey, speed, free style) has its own type of skate and this should be consulted before making your decision, the most common is to buy recreational or fitness skates to learn the bases and after a while, choose the specialty you want to follow.
Keep in mind that the skate you buy should be well adjusted to the foot to avoid bending inward or outward and in turn unnecessary injuries.
Should I stretch if I am a beginner?
Stretching as part of the warm-up is essential since it allows you to prepare and activate the muscles for the effort to be performed, the main muscles to stretch should be the twins, quadriceps, adductors, buttocks, soleus.
Stretching after training helps correct muscle recovery, reducing muscle tension and the likelihood of injury.
What food is recommended before during and after?
Before: Do not go to sports without having consumed any food, the ideal would be to consume a fruit, natural juices, smoothies, salt crackers, peanuts or nuts, cereal bars etc.
During: hydration during exercise is essential.
After: a high energy food is ideal, such as a yogurt or energy bar and hydration up to 1 hour after exercise is beneficial.
Can I skate on all surfaces?
It is important to choose an appropriate space for the practice of sport. A flat ground where you can practice freely without risks of causing accidents to other people, thus avoiding high traffic of people or vehicles in these spaces.
Avoid streets or roads, irregular structures that have stones, sand or water oils and do not stick to cars or bicycles when using your skates.
Are the skates for women different than those for men?
There are no significant differences in men’s skates compared to women’s skates. Sometimes, for reasons of anatomy, men may have larger sizes than women and may have certain preferences in colors or designs, but the skate structure is the same.
Is it important to learn how to brake?
Skating is a sport of speed, for this reason it is very important that from the beginning you feel comfortable braking dry and turning in any direction quickly, this will help you avoid falls and block the path to others while you skate.
